A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

One of the greatest ironies about our work as educators is that while we are in the business of helping our students learn, we have a long history of often shutting our classroom doors and not learning from each other. Not only does working together make our jobs easier, we can be much more productive and effective when we’re not solely responsible for addressing the vastly different learning styles and needs of each of our students. We don’t have to do it all alone!

For this reason, and many others, I have found Professional Learning Communities to be stimulating, supportive and highly effective in meeting the needs of all of my students. I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm about PLCs with you, as well as giving you a wealth of practical ideas for implementing and nurturing a successful Professional Learning Community in your own school or district.

In our high‑stress teaching environment with ever‑increasing demands on our time and energy, I have found that Professional Learning Communities are a powerful key to dramatically improve student achievement. With my teaching colleagues, I have learned timesaving ways to focus on best practices and incorporate them into my instruction. Together, we have learned to let data guide our decisions in order to meet the needs of every student, including those who need additional help and those who are ready to move on. And most importantly, through my work in Professional Learning Communities, I have discovered new ways to use the same amount of time and resources I’ve always had to better meet my students’ needs.

I am excited about the opportunity to share the valuable discoveries I’ve made about the power of working with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities. We will look at the most common hurdles people face and how to overcome them in creating your own PLC. I will share examples of what other schools have done – from urban to suburban, from wealthy to impoverished – to unleash the power of Professional Learning Communities. I promise you a day filled with outstanding ideas, timesaving tools and proven techniques for implementing and nurturing strong Professional Learning Communities in your own school or district.

I look forward to spending the day with you and providing you with a large repertoire of useful strategies, tips and tools that will support you and your colleagues as you create and sustain a Professional Learning Community in your school. I will provide you with everything you need for success.

Sincerely,
Jaime Bailey

P.S. I promise you that our day together will be devoted to practical, hands‑on, ready‑to‑use ideas that will make a thriving Professional Learning Community a successful reality in your school.
