A Message From Your Seminar Leader
Dear Colleague:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay. We see examples cropping up in our personal and professional lives every day. This reality presents an opportunity for us to help our students navigate these new waters ethically and productively, but where do we start? I see two sides to the AI coin: On one hand, there are increased opportunities for academic dishonesty. On the other is a chance to transform standards-based instruction and assessment for world languages by modeling and leveraging these incredible tools. As a world language teacher, I see a great opportunity!
I designed this one-day seminar for world language teachers with a focus on research-backed instructional techniques using AI, anchored in the 6 Core Practices of the American Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures. Ideas and strategies learned at this seminar will focus on using AI tools to leverage target language proficiency based on the pillars of best practices: student-centered, authentic tasks and integrated performance tasks, staying 90+% in target language, making input comprehensible, focus on meaningful feedback, paired communicative activities, and contextualizing grammar. I will share ideas for new lessons, steering you (and your students) in creating better prompts, resulting in more meaningful output for both. We'll examine AI tools and resources ideas for any world language classroom.
Resources from the seminar will be shared to a common website chock-full of handouts, video tutorials, and hyperlinks, making them easier to implement in your classroom. All the tools, resources, and ideas I have put together for you will be geared specifically to help you increase target language proficiency in grades 6-12. I'm already looking forward to our seminar day together!
Peace,
Daryl Boeckers
P.S. It is my goal to share PRACTICAL AI tools, strategies, and ideas from my own teaching practice, ready to use immediately in your world language Classroom.
