A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

An ELL newcomer can arrive at any moment with little to no warning, sometimes with no known background or school history. We are very aware of the challenges this scenario can present for us as educators. Once an English language newcomer myself, I also know firsthand the challenges faced by the newcomer student as well. As an educator with over two decades of experience in classrooms as a teacher, ELD specialist, ELL instructional coach, and as and ELL national presenter, and educational researcher, I bring an in-depth understanding and a whole lot of compassion for the challenges and opportunities faced by newcomer students and their educators alike.

Years of experience working with ELL and newcomer students have inspired me to create this seminar to help my fellow educators turn those challenges into opportunities for success and celebration. I will share dozens of practical strategies that will help you maximize your ELL newcomers' language development, improve their self-confidence, and minimize the barriers and challenges experienced by students and teachers from the minute newcomers are welcomed into the classroom. I look forward to sharing all that I have learned to help newcomers during their difficult transition to a new language, culture, and environment and to help you, their teachers, better navigate the terrain of welcoming a newcomer into your classroom and giving them the best education possible. I will offer you dozens of ready to use activities, tools, tips, and advice I learned from my experience over the years. I'll leave you with resources you can use immediately with your newcomer students.

I am excited to be able to share my knowledge and experiences with you in an informative and engaging one-day seminar! I will bring a wide range of resources that you can quickly use and share with your colleagues. It's my goal to leave you ready to turn the challenges of teaching ELL newcomers into your own stories of success and rewarding experiences. See you there!

Sincerely,
Damaris Perez-Mestre

P.S. I guarantee you will leave my seminar with many outstanding strategies you can use help your Newcomer English Learners!
