A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

When we read about Artificial Intelligence, it can cause anxious thoughts about the impact on research and libraries. Perhaps we're overwhelmed by the idea of incorporating something new or concerned about ethical use of this emerging technology.

As librarians, we've been here before with emerging technology tools like Google and Wikipedia, often taking the role of cutting-edge change champions. Even with valid professional doubts, Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. As information scientists, let's do what we've done before – embrace the messy and creative possibilities, while keeping our eyes wide open for potential pitfalls and hazards.

Based on my years of experience as a school librarian, I am excited about the potential of AI tools to transform the way we teach and how our students do research. During our day together, you'll learn how to harness the power of this transformative technology to greatly enhance your library curriculum. Through interactive and hands-on activities, we'll explore practical strategies to help you easily integrate AI tools into your everyday library work. And you'll get to connect with a diverse group of educators from across the country interested in using AI in their libraries.

We will explore the latest developments in AI and their specific applications in the school library. You'll learn how to create engaging library lessons, streamline
reader's advisory, and foster student innovation and critical thinking through the use of AI-powered tools. Discover ethical considerations involved in the use of AI, and best practices for promoting responsible use of AI in library research.

It's my goal to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to harness the power and potential of AI tools in the school library. You'll gain new skills and knowledge you can apply immediately to strengthen both your students' learning and your work as a school librarian. I look forward to partnering with you on this journey!

Sincerely,
Crystal Trice

P.S. We'll be digging directly into AI platforms, so make sure you come with your best energy! You'll leave ready to hit the ground running with great, practical ways to use AI in your library program.
