A Message From Your Seminar Leader
Dear Colleague:
Ever since Open AI launched Chat Gpt in 2022, I've been both concerned and excited about the rapid advancements in generative AI technology. I felt concerned that students would use AI to circumvent learning, but at the same time excited about the potential for rapidly developing AI tools to assist my students (and me!) Launching into learning all I could about the potential for AI to improve my teaching and my students' learning has convinced me that AI is not only here to stay, but that it can be a powerful tool to benefit both my students and me.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced is trying to determine which AI tools to use and when to use them. Over the past few years, the number of AI tools available to teachers has increased exponentially, but trying to find the best tools can feel like an overwhelming task. I have experimented using multiple AI tools in my classroom, and I've drawn on the best research about student learning to determine when to supplement my teaching with AI tools and when to rely on more traditional, research-based teaching strategies.
In our upcoming seminar, we'll discuss the fundamentals of effectively integrating AI into your teaching practice. Instead of providing an exhaustive list of possibilities, we will dive deep into a few of the best AI tools that I have tested with my students in my classroom. We'll explore how these tools can serve as learning partners that foster critical thinking, provide valuable feedback, and offer engaging learning opportunities for students, while also saving time in curriculum design, instructional planning, and assessment for teachers. I'll guide you through integrating technology seamlessly without losing your personal connection with students.
Our focus will be on practical tools and strategies that you can implement immediately while addressing potential challenges and ethical considerations, ensuring that we use AI responsibly and teach our students to do the same.
We'll discuss when to rely on time-tested strategies and when to embrace cutting-edge AI solutions. This balance can enhance student learning while reducing our workload. By the end of our session, I'm confident you'll feel energized, excited, and empowered to bring your ELA teaching into the 21st century, benefiting both you and your students.
I'm excited to share what I've learned and work together to unlock AI's full potential in our classrooms. See you at the seminar!
With warm regards,
Suzanne Kail
P.S. You will learn dozens of specific instructional strategies you can use to make the best use of AI to enhance your Grades 6-12 ELA students' learning and skill development.
