Practical Ideas and Strategies

While our literacy practices have often moved beyond one-size-fits-all basal readers, workbooks, and whole-group teaching, in many classrooms math has remained whole-group and workbook-driven. In this NEW seminar by Nicolle Santaromita, you will learn how to build or enhance a highly effective Math Workshop – using your existing math curriculum. Discover great ways to pair short, focused teacher-led instruction with purposeful, student-centered activities tailored to their needs.

Explore quick, engaging daily routines that strengthen mathematical fluency and concept development. Experience firsthand the Math Workshop framework beginning with the minilesson, then pulling small groups, while productively engaging the rest of the class, and ending with a closure that supports mathematical dialogue between students, further deepening their mathematical understanding. Encourage productive struggle by providing "just enough" scaffolds for students. And learn what to do with the rest of your class while you meet with small groups.

Join Nicolle for a day full of outstanding strategies and ideas you can use immediately to boost students' success using Math Workshop.

A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

You might be surprised to learn that in my first few years of teaching, math was my least favorite time of the day. The textbooks were dull, and I didn't know there was a better way. Determined to change that, I set out to hone my instructional approach, and math quickly became my favorite subject to teach.

I am excited to share how Math Workshop opened the door to more effective math instruction for my students – and how it can for yours as well. I've designed a dynamic, hands-on day to equip you with the tools, strategies, and confidence to build or enhance your own highly effective Math Workshop.

During our time together you will:

  • Learn practical, ready-to-use daily routines that will boost your students' number sense and mathematical fluency. These short, engaging, easy-to-implement routines require little to no materials and provide a big bang for your buck in promoting deeper conceptual understanding.
  • Discover how to better meet the needs of every student while pulling small groups for instruction. Structure your math block so every student works with you daily in a small group, giving you more opportunities to observe and provide targeted feedback on their problem-solving and reasoning.
  • Gain time-saving strategies to plan and organize your math block and materials so you can focus your energy on delivering the best instruction.
  • Explore engaging activities that strengthen problem-solving skills while keeping individuals, partners, and small groups engaged in math tasks that address their needs, allowing you to work with small groups without interruption.

Whether you're brand new to Math Workshop or looking to refine your current practice, this day is for you! I look forward to working with you at the seminar – and if it's not already, don't be surprised if math becomes your favorite time of the day too.

Sincerely,
Nicolle Santaromita

P.S. You will also receive my Math Workshop digital resource handbook, filled with great ideas to keep your students working productively while you meet with small groups!
