Practical Ideas and Strategies
For students in grades 6-12 with dyslexia, it can be extremely difficult to fully benefit from the instruction we provide each day. By the time a dyslexic student has reached middle school or high school, many have become discouraged knowing they did not learn to read and write as successfully as their peers. The good news is that there is a way to reach these students and increase their literacy outcomes! We now know how to rewire the brain for better reading and improved outcomes in literacy development. Through a multi-sensory, systematic, and structured approach, even students beyond the "learning to read" years of their education can still learn to read and get the most out of their educational experience.
This outstanding, NEW one-day seminar by Karla O'Brien is designed for grades 6-12 educators to gain the powerful tools and techniques needed to effectively improve outcomes for our most reading challenged readers, especially those with dyslexia.

A Message From Your Seminar Leader
Dear Colleague:
Navigating the realm of dyslexia can be as frustrating for the teacher as it can be for the student. Being natural helpers, we can become disheartened when all our efforts lead to minimal student progress. Still, students with dyslexia walk through our classroom doors every day. In fact, one in five students have some degree of dyslexia, and we know that if they do not receive appropriate instruction during their developmental years of reading acquisition, their struggles will continue throughout middle school and high school, potentially leading to poor academic performance, decreased self-worth and increased behavioral concerns. Reading challenges can also send students down the wrong path into adulthood. But there is good news for students with dyslexia… We now know how to effectively improve their reading outcomes! I have created this one-day seminar to share the practical ideas and strategies you can use help your struggling readers finally experience success at school.
Together, we will get a glimpse of cutting-edge research and learn how to not only rewire our students' brains for reading but also use evidence-based highly practical strategies and practices to accelerate reading acquisition and drastically improve outcomes of even the most challenged reader. I will share proven strategies and instructional tools and materials that you can immediately implement to impact your students' overall reading growth. Additionally, you will learn how to use quick and easy assessments to help pinpoint the typical and sometimes nuanced reading problems students with dyslexia face and the practical instructional methods you can use to solve them.
Literacy has the power to open a student's world. I have experienced its positive effect on hundreds of students over the course of my career, and my passion is to provide fellow teachers with the knowledge and tools to impact their students in the same way. Through much research and evidence, I am confident that every individual can receive the gift of literacy.
Sincerely,
Karla O'Brien, M.Ed.
P.S. The seminars I have found most valuable are those that I leave with the understanding of how to put my learning into practice the next day. I have designed this informative DYSLEXIA seminar with that goal in mind for you.
