A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

When children don’t know how to read, write or do math, we teach them. When children don’t know how to behave in school, we often give consequences. Shouldn’t we teach them how to behave appropriately using the same methods we do when we teach skills and concepts? Model, use guided instruction, guided practice, feedback, and encouragement at their zone of proximal development? Of course we should, but too often we forget that young children do not walk through our school doors knowing how to behave and learn. Many children have not yet learned all these skills and they don’t acquire them naturally.

Even the well-prepared child needs our help in learning and applying self-regulation skills in a school setting. I am excited to share with you practical and easy ways you can teach these skills to all your students and get the results you want – students learning and working together, problem-solving in productive ways, and thinking before they act! In this strategy-packed day, you will learn dozens of ideas for creating and maintaining a classroom environment that teaches skills to help students be successful in school – socially and academically. We will cover how to reduce impulsive, negative behaviors, ignore distractions, and to plan and think before acting, with empathy and tolerance for others. In addition, I will share no-nonsense strategies for teaching students to follow directions, take turns, focus, and maintain attention in developmentally appropriate ways.

Dozens of practical strategies and tips will be presented to help you build your own successful program in support of young children with diverse needs. My goal is that you leave with new strategies, various resources and a renewed passion for teaching.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing specific strategies that you can implement immediately to reduce problematic behavior in your preschool–second grade classrooms.

Sincerely,
Lisa Rogers

P.S. You will leave with dozens of practical ideas and an extensive resource handbook to help you implement the strategies in your classroom.
