About the Instructor – Wendy Niskanen

WENDY NISKANEN is an outstanding school nurse, an experienced educator and a recognized school nurse leader. Her work with families in poverty and homeless students early in her career started a lifelong interest in the impact of trauma on health and learning. A school nurse for more than 15 years, she has a passion for the critical role school nurses play in behavioral health. She has brought this enthusiasm to her schools, creating a program for addressing behavioral health proactively. A frequent presenter at continuing education conferences for school nurses, Wendy has developed in-service programs to create a trauma sensitive culture in schools. As a school nurse leader in her state, she has served on the board of her school nurses’ association and is a member of her state’s School Nurse Advisory Group. Wendy is the author of SCHOOL NURSES: Practical Strategies for Proactive Behavioral Health Services, the extensive digital resource handbook you will receive at the seminar.
