A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

If you are like most teachers, you have students in your classroom who are not academically ready to be at their current grade level. Thankfully, there will be many students who are on grade level and perhaps some who are far above grade level. How can we manage to teach each of them at their instructional level? How can we plan for their individual successes? How can we better use one math block to meet the needs of every student? How can we more accurately communicate with parents and administrators the progress each student is making?

Fortunately, through the effective use of guided math and guided math centers I have been able to meet these challenges and have been successful in closing the achievement gap in mathematics for countless students. In this seminar, I'll show you how to successfully develop, set up and introduce guided math as a way to more effectively differentiate instruction during your math block. You'll learn new ways to find the time needed to work with individuals and small groups through the use of practical, standards-based centers that will actively engage, challenge and meet the needs of all students.

Guided math parallels guided reading as a means to meet with small groups of students and give quality instruction and practice at their instructional level. My goal is to give you an array of ideas and powerful activities your can use in your classroom tomorrow and "work smarter not harder." I'll share ways to ensure that your planning will be targeted and your math instruction will be more effective.
