Brochure Image

Designed for Educators Serving Grades K-12: General Education Teachers, Counselors, Instructional Assistants, Title I Staff, Special Education Staff, School Social Workers and Administrators

  • Specific techniques that significantly reduce defiant behaviors
  • Effective and memorable ways to teach your students replacement skills for success in the classroom or distance learning setting
  • Transform arguments into engagement and increase respectful student interactions
  • Powerful strategies that build your students' confidence and self-management skills

Practical Ideas and Strategies

Defiance in the classroom can throw an educator right off their game. When a student argues, yells, refuses, or challenges in a way that interferes with the learning process, it can be very disconcerting. The impact on the rest of the class can be overwhelming and negatively affect everyone's success. Is there a time when defiance and argumentation is good? How do students learn the difference? What is a teacher to do? How can we replace argumentative with respectful behavior?

This NEW seminar emphasizes powerful strategies that have been proven to create cooperation from even the most challenging students. Julie Compton, a seasoned teacher, behavior specialist and presenter, has designed a seminar that brings all of these highly practical strategies together in one place. She will help you create a plan that you can put into action immediately. You will walk away with strategies that prepare you to teach the replacement behaviors your students need to succeed in school.

Your students can be more successful and in school and you can be more satisfied and less frustrated as a teacher.

A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

I love teaching educators because I have walked in your shoes and still do. I understand the effects that defiance can have on a teacher. It can be emotionally draining. As expectations for the academic performance of your students has increased, the behavioral needs of today's students increased as well. So many students online or in-person are without the skills to emotionally regulate and recognize only two ways to get their needs met … by arguing and being defiant. While this may feel effective to them, it comes at a great cost to their academic and social success. You might be in what feels like a "between a rock and a hard place" situation. I will help you get to a much better place where both you and your students experience much greater success.

Teachers need effective strategies to deal with defiant, argumentative students. I've brought together the best strategies that are behaviorally sound, proven to work and lead our students to see the value of making better choices. This is the point from which we can pre-teach, re-direct, reinforce and practice the skills they need to succeed in the classroom. You will be given materials to assist with all of these methods.

Your time is valuable and I intend to use it well. I have a day full of practical learning, sharing and preparing with time built-in for laughter and honest conversation. It's my goal for you to leave excited to return to your school prepared to tap into the best of your students.

Sincerely,
Julie Compton

P.S. You will leave this seminar with dozens of practical ideas and an extensive digital resource handbook to help you implement the strategies in your classroom and in your distance learning community!
