A Message From Your Seminar Leader
Dear Colleague:
There is nothing quite like being a secondary English/Language Arts teacher! The multitude of skills we are responsible for teaching students in our one content area is both amazing and sometimes daunting. With increasing demands on our time and all that we’re responsible for, it can be challenging and even frustrating trying to keep up with the latest, best tools for enhancing our ELA instruction.
As an experienced and fellow secondary ELA teacher, I have specifically designed this seminar with you in mind! If you are fortunate enough to have Chromebooks, laptops, or computers with a Google Chrome browser in your classroom or school, I know that you want to make best use of them. However, despite the array of features that are so readily available, the challenge many ELA teachers face today is in keeping up with the very best ways to use these tools to enhance our practice.
The good news is that there are tons of outstanding, free technology tools and Google Chrome extensions available that are perfect for getting your ELA students excited about coming to your class every day, and that will not only keep them engaged and on task but will also strengthen their learning. In my classes, students have successfully used technology to read/listen to articles and books, share their thoughts, write essays with citations (by keyboarding and voice typing), collaborate on projects, complete grammar assignments, watch and create instructional videos, and so much more! I can’t wait to show you how to implement these and many other ideas in your own ELA classroom!
I look forward to sharing the best of what works and what doesn’t based on my extensive experience using technology to enhance ELA instruction at the secondary level. I will provide you with a comprehensive list of all the tools as well as tips and tricks to save you valuable time and effort. It is my sincere goal that you leave this seminar excited about returning to your ELA classroom to try out many of the new ideas that you learn!
I look forward to meeting you at the seminar!
Sincerely,
Dr. Desiree Alexander
P.S. The emphasis will be on use-tomorrow tools. Plus, you will receive my extensive ELA-focused digital resource handbook, and access to a password protected, resource-packed website to support you long after the seminar.
