A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

Technology, media and more opportunities to travel abroad have made a great impact on the way our students see and perceive their world. It is not just about learning a few words in Spanish in order to survive a week of vacationing in Acapulco or Cancun. Today we see the need to communicate in languages other than English. The case of the Spanish language in the United States is unique. As Spanish teachers, we have the responsibility not only to teach the language, but also to take into account the cultural, social and emotional content. These days the demand for using Spanish is present in many of our students’ very own neighborhoods.

This new dynamic calls for a Spanish teacher who can incorporate cutting-edge technology and stay current with new and innovative world language instruction, someone ready to face the challenge of constant change, who is willing to organize his/her classes in accordance with the students’ real world.

This seminar translates recent language learning initiatives such as proficiency-based instruction, and the use of Comprehensible Input techniques supported by into practical applications that will help you create an enthusiastic, friendly, and culturally aware environment for your Spanish students.

I will share with you the best resources I have used in my own classroom, and we will work with a variety of activities that will help your students communicate in Spanish.

More than 30 years of experience teaching Spanish language in my native Colombia and in the United States at middle, high school and college levels has given me the opportunity to explore, apply and choose the best approaches for every and any context. I have found that the more “tried-and-true” secrets we share with our colleagues, the better our students will learn, and, ultimately, the better we will teach. I invite you to attend my seminar. I’m sure you’ll find it worthwhile and inspiring.

Sincerely,
Diego Ojeda

P.S. Again, the focus in this seminar is on practical teaching ideas specifically designed and adapted for the Spanish language classroom.
