Seminar Schedule Overview

Program Schedule: 9:00 A.M. – 3:15 P.M. Daily

Tuesday & Wednesday (9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.)

Morning general session followed by separate breakout groups by grades K-2 and 3-5 to learn strategies specific to primary and intermediate classrooms.
  • Learn the key components necessary for developing and advancing a successful Guided Reading model in grades K-5

  • Learn practical, classroom-tested strategies for organizing, implementing and managing successful Guided Reading small group instruction

  • Break out into separate, smaller groups to learn Guided
  • Reading practices specific to grades K-2 or 3-5
  • Focus on detailed Guided Reading strategies and video footage filmed in real classrooms and ideal for training educators serving grades K-2 or 3-5
  • Discover training tips unique to Guided Reading in primary or intermediate classrooms
Friday (9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.)

  • Participants will deliver brief presentations on Guided Reading strategies using video clips and will receive feedback from the BER facilitator
  • Practice presentations will provide the perfect opportunity to listen and interact to deepen understanding, familiarity and confidence with the materials
  • Debriefing of presentations and feedback from the lead instructors will strengthen participants' skills in training
  • Participants will leave with a training plan, including videos for grades K-2 or 3-5, and the confidence to implement state-of-the-art Guided Reading training with staff

Lunch each day will be on your own, providing a great opportunity for networking

Instructor Image Judy Lynch is a highly experienced K-2 classroom teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, literacy coach, and a national reading expert. Judy has taught in schools with great cultural and linguistic diversity. Her passion is helping all children become successful readers. She authored several Scholastic professional books. Judy is a dynamic speaker, known for her high energy and infectious enthusiasm. She speaks at state and national reading conferences and consults with schools across the country. Her ideas are exciting, innovative and highly practical. Instructor Image Mary Peterson is a highly experienced and enthusiastic grades 3-5 teacher with more than 25 years of teaching experience and is known for her highly motivating ideas and the practicality of her presentations. She is an experienced teacher trainer, mentor, national presenter, and is the author of several professional Scholastic books. Mary's presentations are fast-paced, inspiring and filled with creative, innovative Guided Reading strategies that can be immediately implemented or adapted in any Guided Reading program.
