Dear Colleague,

The world is continually changing as technology tools provide effectiveness, efficiency and motivation for a variety of jobs and activities taking place outside the classroom walls. The often-mentioned Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, wikis and webcasts are convenient to access, easy to use and manage, and endless in their breadth and depth of educational learning opportunities. While some of our students arrive with extensive technology experience and knowledge, others will come to us as novices, not even aware of the opportunities available. These tools help bridge this gap as they provide hands-on, interactive experiences and practice that enhance content-area knowledge and skill development. The open-ended environment of such tools as blogs, podcasts, webquests, wikis, and others will enable you to enhance instruction, increase communication, develop broader relationships, and motivate your students.

Being a classroom teacher, I realize that this all sounds great, but … let’s keep it realistic. It is my goal to show you effective, teacher-friendly methods and strategies to support your instruction, not add to it. The handbook for this seminar will not become another teacher’s manual to stack on your bookshelf to gather dust. The lessons and activities we’ll explore during this seminar, all directly tie to content standards. The focus of the seminar is to show you time-efficient, practical ideas and methods to have technology support the instruction learning in your classroom.
