Dear Colleague:

APD is a commonly misunderstood disorder among school-age children. Being one of the few audiologists who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of APD gives me a unique perspective on the disorder. There are many variables that can affect a child’s ability to listen and learn in the classroom. Because the symptoms of APD are similar to other developmental disorders such as attention deficit, language disorders, autism, and many others, determining the appropriate diagnosis and interventions for children can be challenging.

The evaluation and management of APD requires a multi-disciplinary approach. I will provide you with practical ideas on how to more effectively work together as a team; audiologist, Speech-Language Pathologist and classroom teacher to identify and work with students with APD. I will introduce you to the most current options available for the treatment and management of APD as well as specific ideas that are tailored to the unique environments of the classroom, treatment room and home. While we cannot help every student achieve at the same academic level, we can help every student work up to his or her full potential.
