A Message from Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

I want to share the tools that not only saved my teaching during the pandemic but continue to keep my instruction fresher than ever before.

In the spring of 2020, rather than seeing a problem with distance learning, many of us saw a great opportunity for delivery of truly comprehensible input and authentic language instruction. With the right use of the right tools, it was possible to bring out MORE student comprehension and communicative engagement. For me, Desmos was one of those key tools. Because while it's not marketed this way, it turns out that many of the features that make it so successful for math teachers are completely transferable to the World Language classroom. It also links seamlessly with countless quality tech tools for language.

I've specifically designed this on-line seminar based on my 29 years as a secondary World Language teacher. We will focus on turning Desmos Activity Builder into a World Language tool, with a healthy portion of the seminar is devoted to creating authentic activities and integrating other tech tools like Google Apps, Vocaroo, and Loom, making this a very unique PD opportunity. This won't be theoretical: I practice what I preach, and you will experience Activity Builder from a classroom teacher's perspective. I'm excited to share with you how to make best use of free Desmos Activity Builder lessons to greatly enhance your comprehensible input and see more communicative proficiency at all levels.

I invite you to join me for a day filled with practical ways to increase your students' engagement using Desmos Activity Builder and other powerful tech tools. I look forward to meeting you at the seminar and exploring together how we can significantly increase student engagement in World Languages using Desmos Activity Builder and more.

Sincerely,
James LeBaron

P.S. The emphasis will be on highly practical activities and strategies that you can use the very next day in your World Language classroom.
