A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

“The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” – From Becoming a Nation of Readers, talking and reading together.

As educators, we know the value of read-alouds with our preschool and kindergarten learners, but we also know we need to do more than just read to them. In my years as a teacher and a librarian, I’ve learned a variety of interactive techniques that bring great books to life for young students. From fingerplays and songs, rhymes and poems, music and movement experiences, whole-group and small-group activities, we can offer so many opportunities for our preschool and kindergarten students to engage in language development and fall in love with reading.

During our day together, I’ll share a wealth of outstanding children’s books and teaching strategies to engage and motivate all the young students in your classrooms and libraries. We’ll talk about the research-based, classroom-proven strategies that have the most impact on developing lifelong readers. I’ll share with you all the best, new books and some of my favorites from my twenty years of educational experience, plus highly effective ways to use them to strengthen your preschool and kindergarten students’ literacy skills.

Some of the topics we’ll explore are:

  • The best, new books for preschoolers and kindergartners, and new ways to enjoy the classics
  • The Common Core State Standards for kindergarten and how to use exemplary literature to teach seven of the standards in the reading strand
  • Activities designed to activate the multiple intelligences of all your learners
  • How to inspire preschool and kindergarten students to fall in love with books, and rediscover the joy of it yourself!

My passion is sharing great books with young learners and finding a variety of ways to make reading come to life. I know you’ll leave this seminar full of enthusiasm and loaded with ideas you can use immediately in your own library, preschool or kindergarten classroom.

Sincerely,
Kristen Remenar

P.S. Come ready to enjoy a fast-paced day full of outstanding books and the practical strategies you’ve been looking for!
