Teaching a struggling reader can be one of the most rewarding, yet challenging endeavors an educator can undertake. As a teacher of struggling readers, I have seen many children struggle due to misconceptions about what reading really is. The most important ingredient is a teacher who is able to find out what the student already knows compared to what he or she needs to know. Effective planning and the use of flexible groups ensure that the specific needs of the Title I student are met. I’ve seen struggling students gain up to two years’ growth in one year using these strategies.
I want to share with you many proven strategies that accelerate the reading achievement of struggling readers. In this workshop, you’ll experience hands-on, minds-on strategies for developing proficient readers and writers.
