A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for the eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.
– From Becoming a Nation of Readers

As educators, we know the value of read-alouds with our students, but we also know we need to do more than just read to them. In my years as a teacher and a librarian, I’ve learned a variety of interactive techniques that bring great books to life. With fiction and nonfiction, rhymes and poems, traditional books, new technology including iPad apps, music and movement experiences, whole-group and small-group activities, we can offer so many opportunities for children to engage in language development and fall in love with reading. During our lively day together, I’ll share a wealth of teaching strategies to empower you to engage and motivate all the students in your classroom and library. We’ll talk about the research-based, classroom-proven strategies that have the most impact on developing lifelong readers. I’ll share with you all the best of the new books and some of my favorites from the past twenty years that make it so much easier to teach critical literacy skills.

Some of the topics we’ll explore are:

  • The best, new children’s books and cherished favorites with highly practical, ready-to-use ideas for using them to build strong literacy skills
  • Dozens of engaging strategies and proven tools to teach state standards in reading for kindergarten through third grade
  • Highly effective techniques to use the best, new web tools – including outstanding apps for iPads – to significantly increase student achievement in reading
  • Activities designed to activate the multiple intelligences of all our learners
  • How to inspire our students to fall in love with reading, and rediscover the joy of it yourself!

My passion is sharing great books with young learners and finding a variety of ways to make reading come to life. I know you’ll come away from this seminar full of enthusiasm and loaded with ideas you can use immediately in your classroom or library to build strong literacy skills.

I look forward to sharing this exciting day with you!

Kristen Remenar
