A Message From Your Seminar Leader
Dear Colleague:
As World Language educators, staying abreast of the latest technology and great ways to enhance our instruction can be a challenge. We may rely on introductory-level online games that enliven the class but may have low impact on meaningful growth in language acquisition. We may think our students are “tech-savvy” but more often they are consumers of tech products, not creators. The good news is that I can help!
In our role as World Language educators we can uniquely provide our students with thoughtful, engaging and purposeful experiences using the target language so they can develop their skills in the three modes of communication. For over a decade, I have served as a Digital Literacy Coach for World Language teachers. I have designed this seminar based on the best of what I have found to be successful in my own World Language classroom and in the classrooms of World Language teachers I have mentored and coached.
Integrating thoughtful technology tools for all three modes with a variety of devices can seem daunting, but it is very doable! I want to provide you with concrete examples and practical strategies that work. We’ll focus on tools perfect for any World Language classroom to enhance students’ production and comprehension in the target language. I want to share products and projects created by my own students. We’ll explore powerful tools, apps and activities you can easily integrate into your curriculum to engage your students as creators using the target language. These practical techniques and tools are grounded in ACTFL’s high-leverage teaching practices and statement on technology in the World Language classroom.
I am confident that you will leave this seminar energized and inspired with a wealth of ready-to-use ideas and skills that directly connect with your content and practices. Your students will take pride in their language acquisition and growth, showcasing their skills, digital stories and projects in all three modes with an authentic, global audience.
I look forward to connecting, creating and collaborating with you!
Sincerely,
Catherine Ousselin
P.S. The emphasis will be on highly practical tools and strategies that you can use the very next day in your World Language classroom.
