Practical Ideas and Strategies

As educators we are being asked to teach an increasingly diverse student population, including students with disabilities or other special needs. As expectations increase that these students access the general curriculum and make adequate yearly progress toward reaching high academic standards, our challenge is to meet the needs of all students without neglecting any of them. One of the best ways of meeting the needs of all students is to partner professionals in the classroom through co-teaching.

Co-teaching has the potential to help teachers and other educators create classrooms that recognize and address a tremendous range of student diversity by drawing on the differing yet complementary expertise of both general and special educators. In this workshop, Marilyn Friend will provide the key elements necessary to begin a co-teaching program or refine and sustain an existing one.
