A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

Have you ever walked into your classroom and wondered how students of the same age could be so different? I certainly have. I’ve also wondered how I, as their teacher, could meet their needs and make sure every student is learning all he or she possibly could. Fortunately, through the use of my guided math framework, I am able to meet the varying needs of my students. In doing so, I am able to plan easier and make learning engaging and exciting for students.

As the name suggests, guided math parallels guided reading. For years, teachers have been using guided reading as a means to meet the needs of students at their instructional level in the area of language arts. In this seminar, you will learn how to successfully develop, set-up and introduce guided math as a way to differentiate instruction in the mathematics realm. This seminar will also allow you to discover ways to find the time needed to work with individuals and small groups through the use of practical, standards-based centers that will actively engage, challenge and meet the needs of all students.

As teachers, we work hard to provide engaging, respectful work that will challenge students at all levels of learning. Guided math does just that! All of the ideas I will share with you have been tried in my classroom with my own students. The center activities are tested and practical. My goal is to give you an array of ideas and activities you can use the next day in your classroom. You will also have the opportunity to see how your current math curriculum and materials may be used in conjunction with the guided math framework.
