Dear Colleague:

As elementary educators, we face the increasing challenge of helping our students build and assess the skills they need in order to master high academic standards in innovative ways. Given the fact that our students come to us with widely divergent experiences and skills, it makes our work even more challenging in this modern day society. Yet this is also one of the most exciting times to be working with our students given the wide range of new strategies at our disposal. We have a vast array of impressive tools and what seems to be an unlimited supply of robust resources to better reach and more efficiently teach our students. It is my pleasure to invite you to attend what I promise will be an exciting day packed with ideas, tips and tools you can use immediately in your classroom.

Throughout our fast-paced day together, you will experience firsthand and receive a wealth of resources and developmentally appropriate practical strategies focused on game-based learning and gamification. I will share dozens of ways to fully engage your students in creative activities that build on their excitement and natural curiosity for learning and leveraging their interest and motivation for gaming. In addition, we will explore innovative techniques to unleash the power of creativity and critical thinking to foster learning, and I will share multiple ways to use outstanding technologies and online resources that provide new, highly motivating learning opportunities for our students.

In order to make our day together most successful, I encourage you to bring your state standards, school outcomes, etc. to this day of learning so that you can make personal connections to the games we engage in and the content you teach in your classroom. Additionally, it wouldn’t be a phenomenal day of learning if you didn’t bring some of your favorite devices and apps to this session; there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to share some of their favorite games and ideas with others.

Most importantly, my hope is that you will feel encouraged, empowered and invigorated to use many of the timesaving, easy to use, classroom-proven ideas and resources to transform your classroom to a thriving and successful game-based learning environment.
