A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

As a special educator and passionate proponent of using technology in the classroom, I understand firsthand how our work with students with special needs can often be challenging and a bit overwhelming. However, when I look at the readily available technology, I marvel at what an exciting time this is in the classroom. In my 15 years as a special educator, I have never had so many useful tools right at my fingertips. It’s been my experience that organizing a classroom and supporting students with special needs can be done much more effectively with the digital tools now available to us. Our job as educators is to prepare our students for the future and technology is part of that future.

I have designed this seminar to incorporate practical classroom strategies, a comprehensive listing of apps and numerous iPad lesson plans. With the Common Core State Standards becoming the focus for many schools, I have created an easy-to-follow list of apps that support both the Common Core State Standards as well as the skills our students need to acquire. I have seen many great successes using my iPad with students. I also have taught lessons that, after reflection, I realized did not achieve the results I was hoping for. It is a privilege for me to share my experience of what works and what doesn’t when it comes to using cutting-edge technology to support the needs of our students with special needs in grades K-6.

I invite you to learn and share with me at this seminar. Collectively, we can establish high expectations for using technology to support all learners and create a toolkit of resources to take us and our students into the future.

I look forward to meeting you at the seminar!

Sincerely,
Melanie Broxterman

P.S. I recognize that time out of the classroom is valuable. I have planned this day to contain practical strategies and resources that you will be able to use immediately in your classroom.
