A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

As we continue the movement towards more standards-based instruction with teachers being held accountable for each student achieving state standards for reading, there are major challenges that confront most educators working with students in grades 3-5. How can we provide a quality reading program, one that encourages rigor and challenge, when there seem to be so many standards to teach with only a limited amount of time and resources? How can we develop within our students the motivation of personal excellence in reading when there are so many gaps in students’ reading abilities?

As a fulltime classroom teacher, I face these same challenges on a daily basis. In my search to align my existing reading program with state standards, I found few resources that provided practical insights on what really needs to happen at the classroom level. Consequently, I have designed this seminar to provide other educators working with students in grade 3-5 practical solutions to these challenges. At the seminar I will share dozens of practical, yet highly effective and time-efficient strategies that will help your students develop the reading skills they need to perform at or above grade level standards. I will share a variety of ways to infuse greater depth and complexity into your reading program that will help to raise the reading achievement of all your students.

Whether reading literature or informational texts, achieving a common set of skills and a responsibility for applying these skills in all subjects, your students will be better prepared to tackle a multitude of academic problems and challenges. I firmly believe that there is much we can do as classroom teachers to help our students develop their reading skills that will not only make them college/career ready, but will assist them throughout their lives.

I look forward to meeting you at the seminar!

Sincerely,
Kay Law

P.S. You will also receive an extensive resource handbook filled with numerous ideas and valuable practical strategies you can use immediately to assist aligning your reading instruction with your state standardsfor reading.
