A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

The primary goal of a physical education program should be to prepare students to lead a physically active lifestyle. In order for that goal to be accomplished, the discipline of physical education has evolved from being one where the learning of sports is the primary focus to one where sport activity is the vehicle by which students learn important concepts about physical activity.

As the discipline of physical education makes this shift in focus, the content and teaching methods of the discipline are also evolving. Standards-based instruction provides physical educators the opportunity to make changes in their program that will meet the interests and needs of today’s students.
Along with the other disciplines in the current school-wide curriculum, the new physical education is being called upon to investigate and model best practices that have been identified by our national associations. In this seminar, I will share with you the reasons for program change and the ways that a new focus can be integrated into your current program.

My goal is to provide you with practical strategies and ideas for making your physical education program the best it can be.
You’ll leave the seminar with teaching strategies, motivational techniques, assessment methods, and a renewed commitment to the physical education profession. I look forward to meeting you at the seminar and examining the new physical education.

P.S.   As a physical education and health teacher, coach, athletic director, and department chair, I know the value of your time. I promise to give you practical strategies and activities that you will be able to use immediately in your program.
