A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

We are faced with tremendous challenges in physical education today. Funding support is low and student apathy is high. Obesity levels are up and outdoor activities are down. Social media is increasing and pick-up games are decreasing.

If physical education is to survive in today’s environment, we must create outstanding physical education programs based on the NASPE Standards. One of the most critical issues of a strong physical education program is assessment. With effective assessment, we can motivate our students, set meaningful goals, and increase the success level of our students. We can prove to school administrators, board members, the community, and parents the value of a strong physical education program.

The assessment practices you will experience in our day together will empower you to build an effective physical education program that is accountable for student learning. I will provide dozens of practical assessment tools and activities that you will be able to easily incorporate into your existing curriculum. I will share technology tools that will make the assessment process more reasonable, not more difficult.

We will experience activities that will engage and motivate your students to want to do their best in physical education. We will focus on new, ready-to-use assessment practices that will help you measure all of the NASPE Standards. I will show you how to use the student data that you can collect to become a more effective advocate for physical education in your school and community.

I can’t promise that you will return to school with an appropriate class size, all the new equipment you need, extra hours in the day, and all the room to teach, however I can promise you will leave with new assessment tools, practices and tips, and engaging activities for building a stronger physical education program.

Dress casually as I will, and I look forward to meeting you in person at the seminar. Here’s to making physical education all it can be in today’s schools!

Elaine Lindsay

P.S. My goal is to provide you with practical assessment practices and engaging activities that you will be able to use immediately in your physical education program. See you soon!
