A Message From Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

As an experienced teacher of English language learners, as well as a former second-language learner myself, I know firsthand the challenges and frustrations faced by both teachers and students in the quest for making speaking, reading, writing, and listening activities comprehensible for all students.

When I was a child English was not my first language. Because of this experience I know all too well the significant difference highly effective meaning-enhanced instruction made in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities that were comprehensible and culturally relevant to my world. As an experienced teacher of ELL students from a wide variety of language backgrounds, I am well familiar with the challenge of helping to make content material understandable to students with whom English is not their first language.

In this seminar I will be presenting dozens of practical strategies I have developed for creating a highly successful and inclusive learning environment for today's English language learners in the regular classroom. We will also take a look at a wide variety of both new and innovative, as well as tried and true strategies and activities, for strengthening the literacy skills of your ELL students. An additional focus of this seminar is to examine the importance of teaching our ELL students how to process and comprehend complex academic content vocabulary and directed instruction lessons in the regular classroom.

My goal is for you to leave our day together enthused about our work as teachers and equipped with a wide variety of practical ideas you'll be able to use immediately in your work with your own ELL students. I look forward to meeting you at the seminar.

Sincerely,

Jo Gusman

P.S. If you are looking for practical strategies, proven to be highly effective with ELL students, this seminar was designed for you.
