Subject: Broadcast Message On Program Requirements
We have you listed on our Professional Development Provider system as the contact person for the Bureau of Education and Research, Bellevue, Washington, provider #100125.
This email is in follow-up to all the phone conversations and emails we have exchanged about the requirement that providers of professional development in Illinois (approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to issue credits to Illinois teachers) must provide participants of their professional development activities with a program that indicates the topic(s) covered and the length of time devoted to each topic(s).
Teachers are required to submit the program to their LPDC with the Evidence of Completion form so the LPDC can see that the amount of credit a teacher is claiming for the activity (or portion of the activity) is clearly identified by topic and length of time. This helps the LPDC determine if it relates to the individual's professional development plan and how much credit a teacher should receive for the activity.
You indicated teachers have been complaining to your organization (Bureau of Education and Research, provider #100125) that their LPDC's won't accept the program brochures you provide to participants because the time is not listed. You also indicated that your organization prints thousands of program brochures and adding the amount of instructional time would be very costly if you had to reprint all of your brochures. We discussed several solutions, but the one that seemed to work the best for you is adding the amount of instructional time to the program brochures you make available online (at www.ber.org).
My supervisor, Dennis Williams, approved this solution. In other words, you can meet this requirement by adding the amount of instructional time to your online brochures (which already list the topic) which are readily available to participants of your activities. Participants can be directed to your website to obtain a copy with the times listed.
Feel free to share this email with participants of your activities so they can convince their LPDC's that obtaining a program brochure in this manner will meet the requirement (as long as the teacher already has been provided with the Evidence of Completion form when they completed the activity).
